Nan Parsons
PAINTINGS AND BACH

Artist Nan Parsons, recipient of one of the 2019 Artist’s Innovation Awards from the Montana Arts Council, will display a selection of her paintings inspired by music of J.S. Bach at The Heath in Helena, on Saturday March 7.

BACH CANTATA BWV 106

“Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit”

(God’s Time is the Best Time)

Musikanten Montana, with director Kerry Krebill

GUEST ARTIST

Ginna Watson, baroque violin

Donald Livingston, organ

Parsons began intensely listening to the music of Bach after filming rehearsals and performances of the B Minor Mass during the Montana Early Music Festival in 2016.

She began painting her responses to this Baroque master’s “fusion of improvisation and precision” as she studied his cello suites, keyboard works and cantatas, attempting to express her feelings as she experienced the passion, intimacy, majesty and mystery of Bach’s work.

Ikebana artist Lorna McMurray will display flower arrangements inspired, in turn, by Parsons’ Bach paintings.

The artist welcomes questions and will discuss her creative process after the cantata, and refreshments will follow.  Doors open at 4 PM, with music at 4:30.

Admission is free; all are invited.
